Traveling from Semarang to Lasem by Bus

Hey folks!

If you’re backpacking from Jakarta to Lasem either by plane or by bus, I’ve got a couple of tips on how to find connecting transports to Lasem. Check them out down here!

  1. If you’re travelling by plane, you’re definitely landing in Ahmad Yani Semarang Airport. Go out of the arrival hall, take a left turn, and you’ll find taxi booths. You could take any cabs that are administered by the airport. The estimated taxi fare from the airport to Terboyo Bus Station might range around IDR 120,000, but it varies according to the rate on that day.
  2. If you go by train, it will be much easier to get cabs. Go out of the Semarang Tawang Station and cab options are plenty. You could ask the driver to drop you at Turboyo Bus Station directly, but in case you want to do some sight-seeing, you could stroll around the city and grab something for lunch (if you travel by a morning train from Jakarta) or early breakfast in Simpang Lima (if you take a night train from Jakarta).
  3. You could also give our trusted cab driver (Mas Agus) a call at this number 0822267960 (email us for more details at [email protected]) in case some help is needed. He will quickly come to get and take you to Terboyo Bus Station, all at metered billing!
  4. Once you get to the bus station, proceed to the right wing of the terminal (from your side). That’s where you can wait to board the express air-conditioned, Surabaya-bound bus that will take you to Lasem. If you stumble across people who are selling bus tickets or offering to help you get bus tickets, simply ignore them, okay? Just make your way to the bus (Indonesia, Widji, or Jaya Utama buses). The bus fare would range from IDR 45,000 to 55,000. Don’t forget to tell the driver to drop you at Lasem!
  5. Once you’re on the bus en route to Lasem, you’ll sort of feel like you’re on a Pantura (North Coast) bus because the Dangdut Koplo (Indonesian traditional popular music) music is played loudly throughout the course of the trip, so get yourself prepared! If you mind the noise, go and ask the conductor to turn down the volume a little.
  6. Your trip to Lasem might take about three hours. Make sure you bring some water and snacks with you!
  7. Keep your safety, particularly if you’re travelling solo. Don’t accept any drink or food that a stranger offers. Substances that can make you pass out might be injected into it, and such cases are getting more common.
  8. Fnally, enjoy your trip to Lasem!
